Swimming Lesson Levels:

     Level Explanation:

     We teach American Red Cross certified swimming lessons.  Their level breakdown is shown below.  You should be able to discern which level your child will need to be enrolled in from the information below.  We will also test your child on the first lesson day to she if your child needs to be placed in a higher or lower level.

The goals described below are the criteria for passing a level.  (Note: There are more goals involved than are listed here.)  If your child cannot accomplish all of the goals, then that is the level you should choose.

Level 1: Water Exploration

     Goals:
Fully Submerge face for 3 seconds.
Supported floating on front and back.
Supported kicking on front and back.
Bubble blowing.  Walking 5 yds in chest deep water.
Enter and exit the pool unassisted.

Level 2: Primary Skills

     Goals:
Fully submerge entire head for 3 seconds.
Retrieve object from 5ft depth.
Unsupported float or glide on front and back.
Demonstrate flutter kick on front and back.
Demonstrate basic strokes.

Level 3: Stroke readiness

     Goals:
Retrieve object off of bottom with eyes open.
Bob, submerging head 15 times.
In water slightly over head, bob to safety.
Demonstrate jumping into deep water from poolside.
Dive from kneeling position.
10 yds swimming front crawl.
10 yds swimming back crawl.
Elementary backstroke.
Reversing direction in water.
Treading water.

The Boiling Springs Pool only teaches group lessons up to level 3.  You can get private lessons, or we can refer you to another group led organization for further lessons.

Level 4: Stroke Development

     Goals:
Deep water bobbing.
Rotary breathing.
Standing dives from side of pool.
Elementary backstroke.
Sculling on back.
Front and back crawl - 25 yds.
Change of direction at wall.
Intro to CPR

Level 5 : Stroke Refinement

     Goals:
Alternate breathing.
Stride jump entry into pool.
Long shallow dive.
Breaststroke 10 yds.
Sidestroke 10 yds.
Butterfly and dolphin kick.
Front and Back crawl - 50 yds.
Open turns on front and back.
Tread water - 2 mins.

Level 6 : Skill Proficiency

     Goals:
Front and Back crawl - 100 yds.
Develop breaststroke, sidestroke, butterfly, and turns.
Pike and tuck surface dives.
Tread water for 3 mins - alternate kicks.
Demonstrate rolling a spinal injury victim to face up.

Level 7 : Advanced Skills

     Goals:
Swim non-stop - 500 yds.
Underwater 15 yds.
Demonstrate in water rescue using equipment.
Retrieve a diving brick in 10 ft of water.
Tread water for 5 mins.
Demonstrate an assist in backboard rescue.
